HAS GOD A FORM OR NOT ????

A real Story.

H.H Radha Govind Maharaj had to wait for 4-5 hrs at Kuwait Airport.

While chanting Hare Krishna in the airport lounge, an airport official called him to speak. Maharaj went to meet the man.

The official asked "I heard U worship stone as God"

Maharaj answered him "Oh, No, We don't worship stone as God but we worship God in stone!".

That official believed that God has no form & body.

Maharaj asked: "Are you sure that your prayers are heard by God?".

He said "Yes"

Maharaj said: "That means God has ears to hear".

Maharaj contd: "If he can hear U, can he also speak to U?".

"Yes" came the reply.

Maharaj said "Then can he not see U when U R in trouble?".

"Sure" came the reply.

Maharaj said: "It means God has ears, eyes, mouth- ie, God has a form".

The man wondered how simple it is!  He gifted a watch to Maharaj!

This story is a testimony for the brilliance of True devotees of Krishna in explaining Big issues in the simplest manner! Krishna Says in Gita: "I am your brilliance".

(A section of people use this brilliance for the welfare of society & another section to cheat the society)

Thanks for our friends for sending this story to us.

VARIOUS YUGAS AND LIFE OF BRAHMA...

Srila Prabhupad has said: There 4 yugas: Satya Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dvapara Yuga & Kali Yuga.

(1) Satya Yuga lasts 17,28000 years; It is characterised by Virtue, Wisdom and religion and no ignorance and no vice (ie, ; no indiscipline); The world was very spiritual & peaceful.

(2) Treta Yuga lasts 12,96000 years; In Treta Yuga, vice were introduced. ie, indiscipline started in the society!

"(3) Dwapara Yuga lasts 8,64000 years; This yuga witnessed greater decline in virtue (Morality) & religion & increase in indiscipline.

(4) The present KALI Yuga lasts 4,32000 years out of which 5000+ years crossed; In Kali Yuga there is an abundance of Strife (conflicts), ignorance, irreligion, vice (indiscipline), non existence of true morality".

"Kali is to go to the extent (extreme) that krishna will have to appear as Kalki Avatar to save devotees from demons & commence another pure Sathya Yuga!

This 4 yuga cycle continues again & again. Thus, when the 4 yugas continue 1000 times, it comprises one day of Brahma & same 1000 times of 4 yugas comprises a night of Brahma. Brahma lives 100 such years". (Calculate, but don't fall down)

Calculation of Life of Brahma: 4 yugas: 432000+864000+1296000+1728000 = 43,20000; Now, 43,20000 x 1000 x1000 = Bramha's one day+Night ,ie , 4320000000000 earth years! Multiply this by 100. You get = 432000000000000. This is the life time of Brahma. Imagine the creations of Krishna! After this life time, this Brahma dies & a New Brahma is appointed! Present Brahma has completed 50 years of age! Vow!

Srila Prabhupad says that these calculations work out to and called as 311 trillion & 40 billion earth years as the life time of Brahma! Remember, Brahma also has death.

ABOUT SUPREME....

            Krishna-JesusChrist - Allah-Buddha are all same
""""We are living in kali yuga. Kali yuga means the age of quarrel and hypocrisy. The reason for these quarrel and problems is man’s losing his good qualities like mercy, honesty, purity anddiscipline. If there is nomercy to any living entity, people will start eating meat. If there is no discipline or regulation in mind and body, they will start taking intoxicants. If there is no truth, gamblingis performed or wealth is earned by wrongmeans. If there is no purityin mind and body, illicit sex isdone. These have been described 5000 years ago by the sage Vedavyasa in the Vedic literature.
Sanatana Dharma, Buddha dharma and other religions clearly instruct usnot to eat non-vegetarian.Science also tells that this gives way to lot of diseases. Television and cinema more often show things breaking the above mentioned 4 regulative principles. Women are being embarrassed in the name of attractiveness. Watching movies and television is wasting money and time. Mind also becomes distracted to a wrong path. For example, If we go out with our parents and see aboy and girl doing intimate activities, we will be very upset in mind. But in TVs and movies they show this in a very bad way. We give money, mind, intelligence, time forthis and waste everything.
The principles said before make us free from sin. An intelligent person understands this and follows as per the vedic directions. Less intelligent people who challenge the Vedas and try to live whimsically are compared to animals. In kali yuga, people with a desire to dosinful actions, do not have faith in vedic scriptures and Spiritual masters. Parents try to make their children as a doctor, engineer, lawyer or any rich person. In this, anyonemay become true or doesnot happen. But, one thingis present, and it can't be stopped at any cost. That is death. Scriptures tell what the person becomes after death. We try so much forthings which mayor may not happen. After knowingthat death is sureand to know more we have to read scriptures like Bhagavad Gita and Bhagavatam.
The one who created this universe can only be one. There are not many Gods. Here, the presence of many religions may cause confusion, but, all speak about the one God only. The only difference between man and animal is that a man can have devotion to God and leada regulated life. But, nowadays, man is becoming animalistic. In the Bible, Youvan 3.12, Jesus Christ says, "In this stage, you do not believe things which I say according to this world, soif I tell about spiritual matters, will you believe?"
Innumerable spiritual topics are given in Sanatana dharma (Vedic religion). Sanatana Dharmais called Hinduism. Bible, Quran and many scripturesproclaim God to be light and many worshipaccordingly. But God is complete (without any imperfections) so a formless stage will become an imperfection inGod. Bhagavata Purana says God appears in three categories: Brahman, Paramatma and Bhagavan. The bright effulgence coming out from Krsna’s transcendental body is Brahman; this is worshipped by many people in their different religions. Vishnu, paramatma is present witheach soul inside and outside and in complete as the supreme personality of God as Bhagavan Sri Krsna.
Bhagavan indicates Krsna only. This is said in Bhagavad Gita, Bhagavatam and many Vedic scriptures. Krsna Himself says that there is one God and He is that God. This is also mentioned in the Bible and the Quran. The names Krsna, Allah and Buddha all indicate one person only. Sun cannot become different or many by calling it in different names in different parts ofthe world. In the same way, all scriptures talk only about Krsna.
The Holy Bible contains the scriptures of the Hebrews and the instructions of Jesus Christ. Then God's instructions to Prophet Mohammed weremade as Al Quran. In the Quran, Jesus has been described as the messenger of God in the name of "IshaNabi".Jesus,Prophet Mohammedand Buddha are all described before in the Mahabhavisyad purana. Prophet Mohammed has been described in two places in Atharva Veda. Jesus has told himself to be the son of God. Buddha was mentioned in Padma purana, Vishnu Purana and Bhagavata puranas. Also, the appearance of great Acharyas like Ramanujacarya, Madhvacarya, Nimbarka and Vishnu swami who established Krsna alone tobe the Supreme God was mentioned in the Padma purana.
All scriptures like Bible, Quran declare God to be present in the Spiritual World. Krsna is called the Supreme Personality and Supreme Father in different scriptures. Krsna declares that He is to be known from all Vedas and the origin of everything that exists. He is the seed giving father and the whole material nature is working under His supervision. Bible and Quran also tell the same thing of God.

A View of The Spiritual World

The Krsna-Loka Poster Explained

To the top left of the map is the catur sloki Bhagavatam verse “aham evasam evagre…” proclaiming that before anything else existed there was only Sri Krsna. Therefore in the center of the map, at the top, is Sri Krsna. On the right of this is the catur sloki Gita verse stating Krsna to be the source of all the spiritual and material worlds “aham sarvasya prabhavo…”. Thus all creation has only Sri Krsna as its source.
Krsna manifests His svarupa-sakti, His pleasure potency, in the form of Srimati Radharani. Radha and Krsna are one, just as musk and its scent or fire and its heat are one, “radha purna sakti krsna purna saktiman…”.
Within the whorl of the lotus of svarupa-sakti to the left, is Sriman Mahaprabhu in Svetadvipa (behind Radha and Krsna). Krsna and His sakhas, the cowherd boys, are in the center, and to the right Krsna is in the groves with the gopis. In the forefront Radha and Krsna are in Seva Kunja.

Three Shaktis

Svarupa-sakti has three “functions”. They are the function of the sandhini-sakti predominated by Baladeva Prabhu, the samvit-sakti predominated by Sri Krsna Himself, and the hladhini-sakti which is predominated by Srimati Radharani.
The left side of the map is colored blue (as it comes from the sandhini-sakti, Baladeva prabhu). The right side is red all the way to the bottom of the map, showing all the female potencies and bliss (ananda) that manifest from the hladhini-sakti, Srimati Radharani.
From Baladeva Prabhu (the sandhini-sakti), who exhibits the primary aspects of pure devotional service and bhakti to Sri Krsna, the first Quadrupal Expansion manifests, consisting of Vasudeva (Gokula), Annirudha (Mathura), Pradyumna (Dwaraka) and Sankarsana, who again manifests the second Quadrupal Expansion as the Vaikuntha realms.
From sandhini-sakti (Baladeva Prabhu) emanate all the nitya-siddha parikara’s forms who perform their eternal pastimes within the cit-jagat (pure spiritual realms). From the samvit-sakti (Vasudeva) all knowledge of relationships (sambhanda-bhavas) are bestowed, and from the hladhini-sakti, Srimati Radharani, come all sweet loving pastimes (ananda)
Srimati Radharani manifests Her kaya-vyuha (bodily expansions) to please Sri Krsna in Goloka, and from Her all bliss, ananda, manifests within madhurya dharma (the realm of the highest aspects of love and affection), as premananda, sevananda, bhajananda, hari-namananda, syamananda etc. etc.

Quadrupal Expansion

Sankarsana (in the first Quadrupal Expansion) manifests the second Quadrupal expansion which creates all the Vaikuntha realms of aisvarya dharma, where feelings of awe and reverence for Krsna (who is now manifested as Lord Narayana) abound. Again from Baladeva Prabhu (sandhini-sakti, Maha Sankarsana) all the bodily forms, planets, abodes etc. manifest. Also the three purusa avatars, controlling expansions, who manifest and maintain the jada-jagat, material worlds, namely Karanadakasayi-Visnu, Gardhodakasayi-Visnu and Ksirodhakasayi-Visnu. Again from the samvit-sakti (Vasudeva Prabhu), all knowledge of relationships is given and from hladhini-sakti, Srimati Radharani, all the billions of Laxmis (goddesses of fortune) manifest along with the bliss of Vaikunthananda (depicted in red).
Residing in the eternal realm of Kailash, immediately below the Vaikuntha planets, is the abode of Sada-Siva, eternal Lord Siva. In fact, it is described that he has a Visnu form and is Visnu-tattva (Brahma-Samhita, verse 8), but we have shown him in the map with his well recognized Siva form (this has been modified in the third edition of this map). Sada-Siva is present with his own sakti Parvati who emanates originally from the hladhini-sakti.
Below this realm is the light of Krsna’s effulgence which impersonalist jnanis aspire to merge into. This effulgence (brahmajoyti) is manifest from Sri Krsna’s qualities of jnana and vairagya (Chap. 13 Jaiva Dharma), which if perceived with impersonal vision appear as nirvisesa (without form), but when experienced by the bhaktas is recognized simply as the effulgence of their sweet Lord. The impersonal bliss experienced in this realm originates again from hladhini-sakti, Srimati Radharani, and is known as brahmananda, the bliss of brahma. When this bliss is experienced by Krsna’s bhaktas as His effulgence, it is also known as brahmananda.

Between the Material and Spiritual Worlds

The Karana or causal ocean, or Viraja River, is depicted below the brahmajoyti. This marks the boundary between the material and spiritual worlds. Vast and beautiful, it’s spiritual waters ornamented with brilliant waves churned by the mighty storms of Krsna’s transcendental effulgence. Here Karanadhakasayi-Visnu, (or Maha-Visnu) reclines on Ananta-sesa (Baladeva Prabhu), “from whose skin-pores unlimited universes are drifting like infinitesimal dust particles seen in the sun-rays entering through a window” emanate, to make up the entire jada-jagat, the dull or dead worlds.
Understanding His mood of compassion for the wayward jivas, Rama-devi (Laxmi’s expansion) carries the jivas along with the time factor (kala) through the glance of Maha-visnu into the material worlds through the agent of Sambhu Siva and impregnates the pradhana (dead matter) through the womb of Durga-devi (as the adhara-sakti), which manifests the prakrti (material nature) as a result. Simultaneously, Gardhodakasayi-Visnu enters every single separate universe, manifested from Karandhakasayi-Visnu, and reclines on an ocean of His own persperation known as the Garbhodaka-ocean.
The jivas, within whom Ksirodhakasayi-Visnu (the third purusa avatar) now resides, then proceed to “pierce” the navel of Garbhodakasayi-Visnu (Srimad Bhagavatam 3.8.13) “due to the intensity of their desires to materially enjoy” and a lotus flower is produced from whence Lord Brahma appears. Lord Brahma, through the sakti coming from Sri Krsna, then proceeds to manifests the entire material higher, middle and lower planetary systems, of gross and subtle worlds.

Illusory World

This entire realm of maya-sakti (illusory world) or Durga-dhama (prison house) is also known as bahiranga-sakti. This jada-jagat, with all its unlimited universes, objects and bodies etc. originates from the sandhini-sakti (Baladeva Prabhu) in His service to Krsna. From the samvit-sakti (Vasudeva) again is manifested all knowledge, but in this realm it is mundane knowledge (bhautika-jnana). From the hladhini-sakti (Srimati Radharani), is coming the bliss of all the enjoyment the jivas experience on the bodily, sensual platform, separate from any spiritual bliss of relating with Radha and Krsna. This is known as dead (jada) pleasure or jadananda.
Residing at the bottom of the material universes is Lord Sankarsana and Ananta-Sesa, in His serpent form, balancing the unlimited universes on the His unlimited jeweled hoods.
Running down the left side of the map are verse references and on the right side are the actual verses from Brahma-Samhita, from where all this information is described. Srimad-Bhagavatam and especially Jaiva-Dharma, also illuminate the same wonderful conclusions.
This is simply a mind map and there are many variations of how these tattvas can be illustrated. It is offered to the devotees as a tool where many essential truths can be easily referenced. Numerous details have been omitted for the sake of simplicity. In future editions these can be added.

WHEN U R HOPLESS JIZ WATCH TIZ GUYZZ...

Hi guyzz and hari Bol! Devoteess....

watch this video to refresh ur mind.

Baghvat gita 6.6 :

bandhur ātmātmanas tasya
yenātmaivātmanā jitaḥ
anātmanas tu śatrutve
vartetātmaiva śatru-vat

SYNONYMS
bandhuḥfriend; ātmāmind; ātmanaḥof the living entity; tasyaof him; yenaby whom; ātmāmind; evacertainly; ātmanāby the living entity; jitaḥconquered; anātmanaḥof one who has failed to control the mind; tubut; śatrutvebecause of enmity; vartetaremains; ātmā evathe very mind; śatruvatas an enemy.

TRANSLATION
For him who has conquered the mind, the mind is the best of friends; but for one who has failed to do so, his very mind will be the greatest enemy.

PURPORT
The purpose of practicing eightfold yoga is to control the mind in order to make it a friend in discharging the human mission. Unless the mind is controlled, the practice of yoga (for show) is simply a waste of time. One who cannot control his mind lives always with the greatest enemy, and thus his life and its mission are spoiled. The constitutional position of the living entity is to carry out the order of the superior. As long as one's mind remains an unconquered enemy, one has to serve the dictations of lust, anger, avarice, illusion, etc. But when the mind is conquered, one voluntarily agrees to abide by the dictation of the Personality of Godhead, who is situated within the heart of everyone as Paramātmā. Real yoga practice entails meeting the Paramātmā within the heart and then following His dictation. For one who takes to Kṛṣṇa consciousness directly, perfect surrender to the dictation of the Lord follows automatically.

WHO AM IIIIII....

Who am I?

Everyone tell their name if asked who are they. If "I" was the name then for any marriage or events I can send a note with my name on it instead of going there, isn’t it? Therefore its clear that I am not a name. My body responds to the calling of my name. After I go out of the body, my body does not move, it cannot feel the sense of touch, it does not respond if called. So, I am  not this body.
As I am inside the body of a human I call myself as a human. An animal calls itself an animal. The difference between a human and animal is that a human body grows upwards whereas the animal's body grows sideways. Even if I present as human, devata or animal, I am not a body. Where was I before birth?Me, my mother or father do not know. We were born from mother's womb. We will disappear one day. After I leave this body, it is not going to function anymore, even if it is called by name. Then who made me function in this body?
In our practical life, we might have seen this. Someone got a diseased body and was taken to the hospital. But, he had passed away. When the person was being taken to the hospital, the people say, "He was taken". But, after He has died and brought back, they say,"the body was brought". From this point, we can see that this body functions as long as "I" am present. When "I" am not present, this is only dead corpse.
If I beat or burn my mother or father, I would be punished or placed in jail. Whereas if I burn their bodies after they passaway, I will be appreciated for doing my duty. The government also sanctions this matter. But, if I burn them alive, I will end up in jail.
I say like this: I am a baby when I am born and then I am a child and then a young boy and then a youth and then an adult and then an old man. Body changes, but I don’t change. I am that which does not change.
We shall see this in another angle: I am a son to my parents, I am a brother to brother, I am husband to my wife and a wife to my husband, I am a parent to my child and I am a grandparent to my grandchildren and so on..."I" am not anything mentioned here. These relations are related to my body only. "I" refer to something different than"mine". For instance, I received a flower garland;I will say it is my garland. I only received the garland and it does not mean that the garland and me are same.
Similarly I call mother, father, brother, husband, wife, son, daughter as my relatives and not that "I" am the relative. It is clear that I am not different to this. Also I tell it’s my eye, ears, nose, hands, leg and body and I do not tell that "I" am eyes or ears and so on.. All these are mine but I am not them.
No one says, I am a head or I am a mouth or body. We only say it is my head and my nose and my mouth. We say, 'My head is paining', but we don't say 'I am headache'.
Next, I am not mind or intelligence. If mind and intelligence come from the brain, then after my passing away from this body, why does the brain no respond to a call or hit? Therefore I am not mind also. Brain does not have intelligence or knowledge. Only when I am present in the body, it appears that the brain is intelligent. From childhood, we go to school to get worldly knowledge. But in schools or colleges, we are not getting to know 'who we are'. It appears none has got complete knowledge even through education from childhood.
The above-mentioned points have not yet told who are we or what we' re supposed to do. I am this body, I am a language, a relative in my family, a person of this caste or a citizen of this country is all the designations given by the worldly people. The body really is used to get happiness. When I am not present in it, it does not experience happiness or distress.
To know the real knowledge of myself, the 4 Vedas, 2 itihasas, 108 Upanishads, 18 puranas are the literatures available. In that, the most holy Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam are available in a detailed way to understand clearly. If we follow the instructions given in these scriptures, we can get the topmost bliss.
Brief explanation on"Who am I":
Who am I, means a soul inside this body.
I am a soul, no one is learning or discussing who they are. Even after many days of training, it is difficult to understand that  we are souls. But if we associate with pure devotees, we will soon realize that we are individual spirit souls.
What is the soul? The living entity (soul) is above this material world, eternal, full of knowledge,in destruct
ible, unchangeable. Soul is full of knowledge and immortal. But, the body takes birth, grows, gives by-products, lives for some time, dwindles and dies. Therefore it undergoes six changes and hence it is dull matter, without any knowledge and destructible.
The spirit soul cannot be drowned in water, burned by fire, withered by wind or destroyed by any kind of weapon. Many people may ask how the soul was made. The soul cannot be realised by the material senses. Vedas proclaim that the soul is atomic. That is the size of the soul is 1/10,000 part of the tip of  the hair. The nature of all souls and potencies are all same. They depend on others for living. All souls are servants of God.
Vedas state:- “ Atma dasyam hare swamyam”
ALL SOULS ARE SERVANTS, HARI IS THE MASTER (supreme ).
CAITANYA CARITAMRTA-
“jivera swarupa hoya krsnera nitya dasa “
The real nature of all soulsis to be a servant of Krsna.
One in knowledge is called a jnani. And those who understand the truth that they are Krsna's servants are the jnanis.
Is it better to be a jnani (knowledgeable person) or a servant? The knowledge for each individual living entity mayvary. But the nature ofservitude will not change. Therefore to realize that we are servants of Krsna isthe best and topmost realization.
Because of all false ego, the soul is trapped in this prison like material world. Durga is in charge of this prison (material world). In Sanskrit, Durga means difficulty. The prime duty of Siva and Durga is to imprison the souls in this material world who were envious of Krsna and wanted to live whimsically.
Only after understanding his relation with Krsna and knowing that he is the servant of Krsna, a soul becomes eligible to enter spiritual worlds like VAIKUNTHA or GOLOKA VRINDAVANA. After attaining that there is no possibility of returning to this material world. Some examples are given to prove God is not formless in the Judaist scriptures, Bible, Quran etc.. For example, Supreme Father in the Spiritual World is called Jehovah in the Bibleand there are similarities between Jehovah and Lord Vishnu. His form is described as follows: He rides in a bird(Garuda), uses fire to destroy evil(Sudarsanchakra)
, has a stick and strong thick conch(club and flute), also wears a splendid crown that represents incomprehensible reality. He appears like a blazing fire and His voice will sound like thunder. It is said that the Lord showedMoses his backsideand not his front side.
God definitely has a form which is not material, but fully spiritual. To see God in material vision, deity worship was established. This material world was created by God when we, the souls wanted to live whimsically out of false ego. Brahma Vaivarta purana and Padma purana describe these 14 planetary systems and 84 lakh species of life to be the God's creation and as a material prison. There are 9 lakh species of livingentities in water, 20 lakh species of flora, 11 lakh species of insects, 10 lakh species of birds, 30 lakh species of animals and 4 lakh species of human beings. Here, people who are fond of consuming meat are born as lions, tigers; people who like to be naked are born as trees and people who are lusty are born as dogs andhogs.
We get a birth in the 14 planetary systems according to our pious and sinful activities. For our pious activities, we geta birth in bhur, bhuva, svarga, mahar, Jana, Tapa and Satya lokas or planets. And for sinful activities, we get birth in atala, vitala, sutala, mahatala, rasatala, tasatalaand patala lokas which are7 hellish planets. Above allthese 14 planetary systems is Kailash, the abode of Shiva. And above all theseare the eternal, blissful spiritual worlds. These spiritual worlds have innumerable forms of Vishnu and therefore thereare innumerable vaikuntha planets here. But, above all these is the Supreme Abode of Lord Krsna called Goloka Vrindavana. By attaining these spiritualplanets, one does not need to take birth again inthese miserable material worlds.
Satya yuga extends for 1728000 years, treta yugalasts for 1296000 years, dwapara yuga contains 864000 years andkali yuga has 432000 years. Totaling these four yugas, there is 43,20,000 years. By multiplying theseyearsby 1000, we get oneday of Brahma. The same duration is his night time. In this way, Brahma lives for 100 years. From Brahma's point of view, we take birth and die in a second as for us a bacteriaappears momentarily, grows up, produces by-products, dwindles anddies. This is same for all living beings.
In Kali Yuga, people are searching for happiness and peace but without knowing the right path. Without controlling the mind and senses there is no peace or happiness. To keep these under control, we must chant the holy names of Krsna. If we follow Bhagavad Gita and srimad Bhagavatam, then there is no need for separate endeavour to escape from the dangers of kali yuga.
Especially, in kali yuga, theMaha Mantra recommended is
  "HARE KRSNA HARE KRSNA
        KRSNA KRSNA HARE HARE
   HARE RAMA HARE RAMA
        RAMA RAMA HARE HARE".
Chant this mantra 108 times daily.
The more we chant this mantra 108 times, the more peace and blissful we will feel.
The above given essay may contradict our personal thoughts and ideas because we may have read many books other than bonafide scriptures and that is the major cause of confusion and nothing else.
Hence, by studying only the scriptures written by Srila Veda Vyasa we will soon realize that we are Lord Krsna's eternal servants in the Sanatana dharma.Sri Krsna says:''The renunciati
on of work and work in devotion are both good for liberation. But, of the two, work in devotional service is better than renunciation of work''- Bhagavad Gita

Wonderful blessings from Damodara Month...

Wonderful blessings from Damodara Month...

From today starts all auspicious Damodara month . Damodara month occurs usually during October and November. It is also known as Kartik-month, in accordance with lunar calendars. It is described in the scriptures as the best among months. Damodara month glorifies Supreme Lord Krishna’s pastime of being bound with ropes by Mother Yasoda. When Lord Krishna, the Supreme Person, the Supreme Lord, appears on earth, He performs extraordinary pastimes as a transcendental cowherd boy. As a child, Lord Krishna lived with His pure devotees in the village of Vrndavana, or Gokula, India. In the spiritual world (Vaikuntha) the Lord, in His form called Narayana, is worshiped with great awe and reverence, but the devotees in Vrndavana have such great love for the Lord that they even forget that He is the Lord. Because of their intense love for Him, they think of Him as their friend, son or lover. And the Lord, to please His devotees, responds in the roles in which the devotees think of Him. As a transcendental pastime, Lord Krishna used to steal butter from the gopis, the ladies of Vrndavana. Once, however, His mother caught Him, bound His waist with a rope, and tied Him to a grinding mortar to punish Him. The Lord is therefore also known as Damodara (dama means "rope," and udara means "waist"). The festival of offering ghee (clarified butter) lamps to Lord Krishna, lasts the entire month of Damodara. Observing austerities in the month of Kartika are glorified in the Vedic scriptures. It is also mentioned that one who offers ghee lamps to Lord Damodara in this auspicious month and sings the Damodara Ashtakam (8 verses glorifying the Lord) will get rid of his past sins and develop devotion to Lord Damodara (Krishna). Everyone, indiscriminately – man, women, young and old can offer the ghee lamps. Ghee lamp offerings can be made in the morning or evening or during both times.
